Nov 8: Ephrata Linear Park and Brickyard Trail
Parking at Pointview and Sycamore in Ephrata. Extends beyond Fulton St; now goes to Main St. in town. Distance is a little over a mile (1.06, or was it 1.08). There is the short Brickyard Trail, about 1/3-mile long. Got a bit hilly so I didn’t go the entire way, but map shows it coming out in a neighborhood. Pedometer goofed off and only read about 400 steps. Time for a GPS.
Interesting little walk. Looking at the map I wondered how they could squeeze this in there, but they did.

I moved out of Ephrata a few years ago. Last weekend I went to visit my parents and was about to take my favorite walk from childhood (back roads on the east end of town), but my dad took me out to Linear Park. I never even knew that they’d built such a thing! Totally loved it (and now Railroad Avenue is nice instead of creepy). The map said 1.06 miles, and the Brickyard Trail was .34 or .36.
I’d never thought of a GPS for walking. Very interesting idea…

The first time I found this park/trail in “Lancaster On The Move!” I looked at a map and thought “how could they squeeze a trail in there”. But when I got there, I saw they did it! The interesting thing is that it has lights and, if I remember, is open until 10 PM. I guess they’re trying to get people into downtown. It is a nice walk. For me, being level is important: my knees don’t like the hills, but I can walk five miles if it’s flat.
A few weeks ago I bought a Garmin e-Trex H, so now I know down to the hundredth of a mile how far I go walking. It’s a great improvement over the old GPS-12 I used to use; it’s much lighter, takes only two batteries, and has a lanyard so I can just hang it around my neck.
