York Heritage / Northern Central trail update
Sunday, May 22nd, 2011Once again, Word Press wouldn’t let me the previous message…

After what seemed like weeks of rain, I finally got to walk outside again!
Parked at the Parkton parking lot. The next lot, at White Hall, is only two miles, so I kept on going. I stopped at mile marker 9, which seems to be roughly midway between White Hall and Monkton. This is an interesting stretch, with huge boulders and a number of little waterfalls. In addition, there are a few more of those railroad signals I noted near Bentley Springs. Total GPS distance: 7.07 miles.

Started at Bentley Springs and stopped at mile marker 12, about 3/4 mile south of Parkton. A welcomed site to the few historical remants was the preserved control sign just south of Bentley Springs. Another thing I learned was about the “W” signs. According to a Web site “W” doesn’t mean water (my first guess which didn’t make a lot of sense) but “whistle” intead…presumably when approaching crossings without gates.
The GPS batteries were almost dead so I preserved what was left for capturing mile marker positions. At mile marker 12 the “go to” distance back to the parking lot was something like 3.16 miles.
